VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
Vocational Education and Training provides skills and knowledge for work, enhances employability and assists learning throughout life.
Employability
Students obtain nationally recognised qualifications and accreditation.
Australian School based Apprenticeships (ASBA’s) and Traineeships
allow students (typically year 11 and 12) to study while they train
in
a real workplace to achieve nationally recognised vocational education
and training qualifications. Students gain hands on experience without
having to leave school or forfeit their senior certificate.
Students enter into a training agreement with the employer and are
engaged on the basis of paid employment whilst completing senior
studies. Alternatively they begin studying a Certificate II or III
at TAFE.
What’s Involved?
Students will be allocated one day per week for work. Instead of going to school, they work and are paid for this day’s work
School Based Traineeships are completed during the two years of senior schooling. Students who start an Apprenticeship during senior schooling may have the opportunity to continue it after year 12 fulltime.
A School Based Traineeship is classified as a part time Traineeship or Apprenticeship. It enables a student to undertake a combination of paid work experience and vocational training in order to gain a nationally recognised Level 2 or 3 Certificate in a particular industry.
Career Planning
Pathways to and from Vocational Educational and Training, schools, universities and adult and community education are discussed in career planning sessions.
Support
Mary MacKillop College recognises that students need support to make the transition from school to work and other organisations of learning (such as TAFE) and to realise their potential.
